Cardiomyopathy syndrome (CMS) is a heart condition in farmed fish in the sea. The disease is found along the entire coast of Norway, and can cause significant losses because it often affects large fish.
There is still limited knowledge on the infection route, but the disease occurs mainly in the sea phase. Water-borne infection by the virus has been proven between individuals, but investigations are ongoing to examine the risk of vertical transmission between broodstock and offspring.
In the future, PatoGen will intensify research related to CMS to acquire a better understanding of the disease and find preventive measures.
